Joseph E. Beck III Joe “Wisdom” Beck
Joe was born in Greensville, South Carolina to his mother, Eleanor Beck a teacher of physical education and a musician herself, “clarinet” and his father, J.E. Beck Jr., a sanitation engineer of the state. Joe’s grandfather, Joseph E. Beck was the first black principal of a high school in the state.
Joe plays the sax (tenor, alto, and soprano), the flute and percussion. His major music influences come from David Sandborn, John Coltrain, Stanley Clark, Sonny Rollins, Osibisa, and Mandrell. He has played with Peabo Bryson when he was in high school and has sat in with Count Basie while he attended college. Joe has been performing professionally since the age of 15.
